Instagram engagement rate calculator
Add your follower count and the totals from your recent posts to see your engagement rate, your comment rate and interactions per post.
(Likes + comments) ÷ posts ÷ followers × 100. Compare it with your own earlier posts: there is no official “good” number, and rates differ a lot by niche and account size.
The formula
Engagement rate by followers = (likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ number of posts ÷ followers × 100.
Use the same set of posts for every total, for example your last ten. Leave saves and shares empty if you’d rather measure likes and comments only; just use the same method each time you compare.
Reading the result
- Compare with yourself. The most useful benchmark is your own rate last month or on your last ten posts.
- Look at comments on their own. A comment takes more effort than a like, and it’s the interaction you can reply to.
- Mind the format. Reels, carousels and single photos often perform differently, so compare like with like.
Turning comments into results
If your posts already get comments, ask people to comment a word to get something: a guide, a discount code, a link. With linkpls, each of those comments gets a reply and a DM with the link, which turns engagement into clicks you can count.
Questions
How is engagement rate calculated?
This calculator uses engagement by followers: add up the likes and comments (and saves and shares if you include them) across your posts, divide by the number of posts, then divide by your follower count and multiply by 100.
What’s a good engagement rate?
There isn’t an official benchmark. Rates vary a lot with niche, format and account size. The most useful comparison is with your own earlier posts.
Where do I find the numbers?
In the Instagram app, open a post and tap View insights. Professional accounts see likes, comments, saves and shares for each post.
Why track comments separately?
Comments are the interaction you can act on. If people comment a keyword to get something from you, a tool like linkpls can answer every one of them in the DMs.
